LGBTQ+ Inclusion
Description:
In this course, learners will gain an understanding of some of the barriers faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community, how to incorporate inclusive language, activities, and visuals, and how to make environments more encompassing for everyone. This module provides education and actionable steps to ensure LGBTQ+ youth are included when facilitating sexual health education.
Introduction to LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Health Disparities
Objectives:
- Define terms relevant to the LGBTQ+ community and this module series as well as identify resources to learn more
- Describe the 5 social determinants of health
- Describe how the 5 social determinants of health impact the LGBTQ+ community
- Identify health inequities within the LGBTQ+ community
- Understand that disparities are greater when certain identities intersect
- Understand why learning about LGBTQ+ health disparities is critical to health education
LGBTQ+ Inclusive Puberty
Objectives:
- Name Gender Spectrum’s five principles for “Gender Inclusive Puberty and Health Education”
- Briefly describe one model for explaining sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and sexual orientation
- Identify two language changes to make puberty lessons more inclusive
LGBTQ+ Inclusive Classrooms
Objectives:
- Explain the concepts of “preventing exclusion” and “promoting inclusion”
- Identify at least two areas where inclusion can be increased within a classroom setting
