Wisconsin Get Yourself Tested
(GYT) Campaign 2024
HCET, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Division of Public Health STI Unit, coordinates the statewide Get Yourself Tested (GYT) Campaign.. GYT encourages young people to get tested and treated for STIs and HIV to protect their health and that of their partners. Community-based organizations throughout Wisconsin participating in GYT initiate testing events to increase public awareness on the importance of STIs, and to provide confidential, convenient, discreet, and low-cost tests and treatment.
In 2023, HCET provided GYT funding and technical assistance to 19 local health departments and community-based organizations. Due to the efforts of those participating in this Campaign, Wisconsinites received 108,488 condoms and 1,963 dual protection kits (which offer two methods of contraception to prevent STI transmission and unwanted pregnancy). GYT events at fairs, schools, universities, restaurants/bars, and other community gatherings led to 3,706 people being tested, 1,557 people being treated, and 959 people being enrolled into Wisconsin’s Family Planning Only Services (FPOS) program, where residents with limited income can receive low to no-cost sexual and reproductive health to prevent unplanned pregnancies.
As we approach STI Awareness Week (April 14-20), and with STIs continuing to increase year after year, it is crucial that we encourage anyone who may need testing, to GYT!
