Introduction
This learning module was developed to provide a basic overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as to provide links to other websites that contain more detailed information about HIPAA compliance.
Purpose
The purpose of this learning module is to assist health care providers to:
- Recognize HIPAA regulations,
- Apply HIPAA regulations to their setting, and
- Explain HIPAA regulations to offices, employees, and others who have access to medical information to improve compliance.
Audience
The information and policies in this module are appropriate for health educators, nurses, physicians, social workers, and other health care professionals who work in a health care setting.
